Alphabet Bead Dangle Ornament

This ornament was inspired by a set of small alphabet beads that I picked up at a craft shop. The ornament itself is about 4" high and made with the beads, some craft wire, a length of jewellery chain, two small jingle bells, and a dangle showing Sylvester Junior.

To begin,  I strung the word "Junior" on a length of 18-gauge craft wire and added some red and green metallic beads at each end. Using round-nosed pliers I made a small loop at each end of the wire and curved the whole thing slightly. Then I strung "Sylvester" on a second length of craft wire. I passed the ends of this second wire through the loops of the "Junior" assembly and added red and green beads to the ends. With my round-nosed pliers, I made loops in the ends of the second piece of wire. To these loops I used jump rings to attach small red jingle bells; with a second jump ring, I attached a length of jewellery chain -- approximately 6" long.

For the Sylvester Junior dangle, I used two 1" flat-backed buttons glued back-to-back with GOOP and trimmed out with a length of fused beads. To add the bead trim, I used a toothpick to apply GOOP to the recess between the two buttons, and pressedthe beads in place. When the dangle had dried, I attached it to a small length of craft wire on which I also strung a couple of small metallic beads. Using a jump ring, I attached this unit to the middle of the chain, then slipped a hook though the center link of the chain.

If you don't have buttons, you can make the dangle using a purchased charm, a small ornament, a shrink-art motif, a tiny figurine, a laminated image, or even a jingle bell. And as with the other ornaments on the site, you can make an ornament like this one to feature just about any theme you can think of: family treasures, favorite TV shows, other cartoons, Harry Potter magic, or a special hobby or pastime.
